Understanding Starlink Accessory Compatibility: Power, Ports and Geometry

Compatibility is not a checkbox. It is the sum of the power interface, the physical interface and the connector — and any one of them can break a kit.

"Compatible with Starlink Mini" on a product listing is a claim, not a specification. It can mean three very different things, and only one of them is worth anything to you. When a customer tells you the accessory does not fit, it is almost always because the seller checked a different interface from the one the customer needed. Here is the three-part framework we use internally, and the order in which to check it.

Interface one: the power interface

What voltage does the kit expect, in what form, from what source? The Starlink Mini takes a regulated DC input delivered by the supplied power unit; the Standard kit uses its own supply with a different input range and different terminations. Compatibility at this interface means the accessory provides exactly what the kit expects — same voltage, same regulation quality, same connector. It is the most commonly failed check, because vendors often test the "voltage" and stop there. A 36V output that is unregulated, or that is delivered on the wrong connector, is not compatible with anything.

Interface two: the mechanical interface

How does the accessory hold the dish? This is a question about geometry and load path, and it is where mount failures come from. Check the mast or collar diameter, the clamp range in millimetres, the dish footprint, the centre of gravity offset, and whether the accessory can support the load in the intended orientation. A bracket that clamps a 60 mm mast but is dimensioned for a 40 mm one may physically fit while leaving the dish loose. Always verify with a drawing or a physical sample, not with a product photo — perspective hides taper, and taper is the difference between a clamp that bites and one that slides.

Interface three: the connector and cable system

The last interface is the one buyers forget to check and the one that generates the most returns. Verify the connector type, the pin configuration and the cable gauge and jacket rating. DC 5521 terminations appear in more than one variant, and a cable that is correct for one revision of a kit is not automatically correct for another. If you are buying in volume, the cheapest verification is to buy one of each and try them, which is why we keep sample stock available for exactly this purpose.

Why a maintained model list beats a compatibility spreadsheet

Starlink revises kits. Accessories that were correct for a model can become incorrect when a revision changes a mechanical or electrical detail, and a spreadsheet maintained by hand will not tell you when that happened. PLZTECH keeps the model list as a maintained record rather than a static list, and that record drives the compatibility filter on this site and the model assignment on every product. When you buy from us, the compatibility data you are given is the data our own assembly line is built against.

A verification routine that takes ten minutes

For any new supplier and any new SKU: pull the dimensional drawing or measure the physical sample, confirm the clamp range against the kit you intend to pair it with, confirm the connector by mating it to the actual kit, and confirm the power specification from the datasheet rather than the listing. Write the result into your own product record with the date and the source. When the question comes up again — and it will, from a marketplace buyer — you will have an answer that is worth more than an opinion.

Send us the kit list for verification

If you send us the kits you are covering, we will return a compatibility matrix for the specific accessories you are quoting, flagging any combinations we would not recommend selling together. Where a product is not right for a kit, we will say so plainly and offer the part that is. That is faster than a return cycle, and it protects the listing reputation that your customer depends on.
